I'm Rivoli and I'm looking for some balance. I've found that it's easy for me to justify a relatively "small" purchase but that, over time, I've accumulated way more than I really need. Also, I feel like if I put that money aside, I could be saving for something that I'd really use.
I occasionally purge my stash and give some to my daughter, who's makeup-wearing age. I feel so good every time I do this, I realize it's like a burden being lifted. It makes me feel good to know that someone's going to give this some love and use it to pan. That's why I starting to think that my spending is really out of balance. I don't need to spend $10 or more on a new palette when I have plenty of other eyeshadows already. Plus, if I go several months I'll be able to accumulate enough for new clothes, shoes and accessories. It seems totally worth the effort!
My biggest temptation is going into stores, MUA and like others have mentioned those "LE's" that I'm afraid to miss out on. How do you deal with letting the "LE fever" go?
Thanks to all! I'm loving all your posts!
Heya Rivoli! :D A combination of things work for me. These may or may not work for you too.
ReplyDelete1) Taking/posting stash pictures. When you take all your stash out, then you realize how much stuff you actually have.
2) Turning my single e/s into palettes. After I did this, I realized that I accidentally bought doubles of some e/s. But because they were singles, I never realized it until I depoted them into a palette.
3) Changing up your makeup organization. Finding something that works for you. I stack some of my blushes vertically (in thin plastic container) & put the blush to the back after I use it & allow myself to only use the first one. :P Forces me to give equal love.
4) Purging stashes. Some of us have way too much stuff. It's nice that you have a DD that you can start passing stuff on.
As for the LE stuff, as I spoke to Aly, most stuff are not truly undupable. True some people will rave abt it but rarely something works for everyone so.......
Maybe snicker's rules will help you too.
Snickersforsnuggles' 2009 Low Buy Rules:
1. as much swapping as I want
2. $5 per week to spend on new MU - can be spent as I go or saved up to spend on a larger item
3. replacements are allowed
4. if I need a non-fun item for something important, I'll try to get a sample of it instead of buying it, but if I can't, this can be an exception
5. extended! this will last until the end of 2009 (or maybe until Sephora FF)
HTH!
I just dont get the hype about having like 30 taupes.. they are just not different enough for me to justify.
ReplyDeleteLE is LE!! It will come and go. Avoiding MUA as much is the first step from getting away from the craze for the LE items. (someone will get it and not like it and then it will go up for swap ~ Don't fret LOL)
I agree with KTB on avoiding MUA. When I'm away my lemmings completely vanish and suddenly I feel like my old self again, except now my old self with more makeup than I really need.
ReplyDeleteHi Rivoli!
ReplyDeleteI tried to avoid MUA only to fall into the whole beauty blogger circle haha... but I do agree it really helps!
With the whole LE craze, I try to tell myself that LE items are truly not that special. MAC has LEs coming out every two weeks and other brands have them at least 4x a year - there are not enough colors out they are different every time. And if you don't get it - you'll never know what you were missing! I totally agree with KTB, no one except maybe you, will ever be able to tell the difference between your 30 taupes on your eyes. You really only need one... maybe 2 or 3. As for me, I also got caught in the Smoke & Diamonds craze... then I caught myself and realized that I never wear Taupe! I like colors or peachy neutrals. Even if I got it, I'd probably never wear it - so why bother??
I also sort of gave up on MAC's LE items/new collections. I'll stop by Nordie's every so often to just browse... but I usually already have a pretty good idea of what will work for me and what won't work for me and what looks suspiciously like items I already have by reading Temptalia, etc.
HTH =)
